Down to Earth 2018

Spotte Art is pleased to present LORI GLAVIN: DOWN TO EARTH, a solo exhibition of the artist's recent work.  This collection continues the artist's exploration of spontaneous forms with everyday inspiration, but now with geometric rigidity and otherworldly compositions. The collection is available for purchase online starting early February 2019.

The show presents 11 works, and ranges from monotypes on paper to collaged works on panel.

Lori Glavin is an abstract painter, printmaker, and collage artist who has been involved in the visual arts for over 35 years. Throughout her career she has explored many styles and modes of making work, following a spontaneous explorations of domestic and mundane environments she lives in. Glavin works without a plan and embraces happy accident, building up forms piece by piece without a plan.

In her own words:
"In my home environment, possessions are stacked and scattered, organized and misplaced, remembered and forgotten. This dichotomy informs and inspires my studio practice. I make piles to gain control and find order in a world of excess data, information and consumer goods.  In my work I combine, collect, and sort- layering small bits to make an arrangement of color and shape that becomes a monument to the minutiae of my daily life."

Lori Glavin is originally from Rochester, NY, and she earned her BFA from Syracuse University's School of Visual and Performing Arts. For the past 20 years Lori has focused on her fine art practice. In 2007 she co-founded Wilson Avenue Loft Artists, a community of artist studios in Norwalk, CT. She was a Vermont Studio Center grant recipient and resident in 2015 and 2018.
